What does the EEG account save when a cohort falls out?
Plants with a statutory tariff are paid for their commissioning year plus 20 calendar years. The cohort is set by the EEG commissioning date, so all of a year's plants leave on the same 31 December; plants from before 2000 count as commissioned in 2000. Tendered plants are paid for exactly 20 years from commissioning, and plants from 25 Feb 2025 get their unpaid negative-price hours added at the end (§ 51a EEG). Here every cohort ends on 31 December of the 20th year after commissioning.

The exit staircase: payments to today's fleet if nothing new were built
Each step down is a cohort reaching the end of its 20 years. 2025 is billed; later years are modelled. Hover a bar for details. After 2025, each cohort keeps its 2025 payments until it exits (weather and prices as in 2025). The 2025 and 2026 cohorts get the per-kW payments of the 2024 cohort for a full year, less the output in negative-price hours for plants over 100 kW commissioned from 25 Feb 2025. Net cost at the 2025 market value of 4.51 ct/kWh.

Fixed tariff ct/kWh: the tariff actually paid per kWh under the fixed tariff. Payments are the fixed tariff and the market premium, as in the yearly totals; net cost uses the billing year's solar market value. Cohorts that ended before the billing year still show small payments for plants whose MaStR date differs from the TSO's; payments to plants past their 20 years are not included.
